MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to followers of the Islamic faith.
PRINCIPAL MEMBER
A person on whose behalf contributions are being paid or a paying individual who qualifies for membership of the Society, provided in all cases the eligibility conditions are met.
SPOUSE
A person married to the Principal Member under Shariah (Islamic Law) and/or Common Law, provided the eligibility conditions are met.
Divorced spouses at inception of the policy are not covered, and cover for spouses who divorce during the term of the policy will cease immediately on divorce.
ELIGIBLE CHILD
An unmarried child, 20 years and younger, of the Principal Member, including a stepchild or legally adopted child.
Benefits for the unmarried child will end on the 21st birthday or when the child gets married, whichever event occurs first.
Details of any eligible children must be supplied to the Society at the time that the Principal Member joins the scheme, or within one month after birth or within one month after the child becoming eligible for cover. A newborn will only be covered once the details of the newborn have been provided to the Society.
AGE
Age is defined as the age at last birthday of the person covered.
MAXIMUM ENTRY AGE
Maximum entry age is 64 years at which an individual will be eligible for full cover. A member who has entered before age 65 will continue to receive full cover from age 65 if contributions are up to date.
Different benefits will apply if the Principal Member is 65 years or older on join date (see Burial Plans).
DEPENDENT
The Spouse and Eligible Children of the Principal Member.
CONTRIBUTION
The monthly contribution payable by the Principal Member for the benefits as specified under the Terms & Conditions, and as amended from time to time by the Society in terms of the provisions of this Policy.
WAITING PERIOD
The period during which no death cover or benefits are in place.
MURTAD
A Muslim who willfully renounces Islam and who has converted to another religion or atheism.

1. BURIAL PLANS AND BENEFITS
1.1 STANDARD PLAN (YOUNGER THAN 65) AND SENIOR GOLD PLAN (65 AND OLDER)
The above two Plans will cover burial costs to the Principal member, his/her Spouse and eligible Children. Burial costs will be limited to:
a. cost to Municipality for preparation of grave
b. cost to Paarl Muslim Jamaa for Kafan and
c. R1 000 cash to a nominated beneficiary, spouse or closest relative if no beneficiary was nominated.
1.2 SENIOR SILVER PLAN (65 and older on join date)
If death occurs within the following periods, benefits will be calculated as follow:
1 to 6 months : total contributions will be returned
7 to 12 months : contributions + 25%
13 to 24 months : contributions + 50%
25 to 36 months : contributions + 75%
37 months and more : contributions x 2
Benefits will be limited to the smaller of the above OR burial costs + R1 000 and will, depending on available benefits, be applied in the following manner and order of priority:
a. cost to Municipality for grave, and then
b. cost to Paarl Muslim Jamaa for Kafan and if any funds are available, then
c. R1,000 cash or portion thereof to the nominated beneficiary or closest relative if no beneficiary was nominated.
Payments for qualifying claims will be paid within 24 hours of receipt of a certified copy of the death certificate, provided the first contribution was received and contributions are not in arrears. Should more than one family member pass away due to the same event (eg car accident), only 1 x R1,000 cash will be paid out on all Plans.
2. WAITING PERIODS
From date of receipt of the first contribution, a 6 (six) month waiting period will apply before full cover will come into effect. In the event of death during the waiting period, only premiums paid during this period will be refunded to the nominated beneficiary, spouse or closest relative of the deceased if no beneficiary was nominated.
Any new additions to the family (new spouse, baby or adopted child) will be subject to the 6 months waiting period. The waiting period will start from the date of marriage, date of birth or official adoption date.
3. COMMENCEMENT OF COVER
Cover in accordance to the different age categories will be effective immediately after expiry of the 6 (six) month waiting period; provided that all contributions were received and are up to date.
4. CONTRIBUTIONS
The initial contribution for each Burial Plan is as follows:
Standard Plan R70 p.m
Senior Silver Plan R70 p.m
Senior Gold Plan R140 p.m
Contributions are payable monthly in advance and is due and payable by not later than the 7th (seventh) of the month in which it is due. A double payment is due in the first month and thereafter as indicated above.
If a contribution is three or more months in arrears, the policy will lapse, and the member will forfeit all his/her payments. If the policy has lapsed, the Principal Member must apply to have his/her membership reinstated; and if approved, the 6 (six) month waiting period will once again come into force with effect from the date on which the first premium was received. During this waiting period, claims will be limited to premiums paid since the start of the new 6 month waiting period. If the policy is less than 3 months in arrears at date of claim, the arrears will be deducted from the R1 000 cash payment.
5. EXCLUSIONS
This benefit will not be paid if death is directly or indirectly caused or attributable to:
Terrorism or war (whether declared or not).
Radioactive contamination, whether directly or indirectly.
Natural disasters (eg earthquakes, floods etc) Epidemics, Pandemics or any outbreak of a contagious disease causing major loss of life.
Self-inflicted injuries whilst sane or insane.
Death as a result of illegal activities.
Participation in any riot, strike or civil commotion.
Excessive consumption of alcohol or the taking of any poisons or drugs.
Participation in any hazardous pursuit.
Suicide
Any single event resulting in mass loss of human lives
6. CANCELLATION
Cover will lapse after the member has been in arrears for three or more months. The member has the right to cancel his/her membership at any time after giving the Society seven days written notice of such intention. The member will forfeit all his/her contributions with voluntary cancellation.
Cover for a dependent will lapse if he/she has publicly renounced Islam and is considered a murtad. If the Principal member is considered murtad, all contributions will be forfeited and benefits for the Principal member and dependents will lapse. The spouse or children may apply as new members.
7. DEATH OF PRINCIPAL MEMBER
In the event of death to the Principal member, the remaining spouse may reapply as a Principal member without a six month waiting period. If no spouse and only children remain, a child of 18 or older may apply under a new membership for him/her.
8. CLAIM PROCEDURE
